Our vibrant society feels it is critical to provide continuing education credits for all of our meetings. CME credits are offered for physicians, and CEU credits for psychologists, social workers, and licensed professional counselors. Our presentations cover psychoanalytically-oriented subjects, such as child development, marital conflicts, evolving theories of relationships, diagnosis, deficit disorders, unconscious conflicts, and therapeutic techniques. Our speakers vary from local experts on a particular topic to nationally and internationally known scholars.

Secondly, we help orient trainees in all mental health fields about the utility of modern analytic concepts in child-centered counseling, psychotherapies, and related fields. To this end, we sponsor selected trainees to attend our lectures and meetings.

Thirdly, we endeavor to give recognition to the members of the society who are doing incredible things in their practices and their lives. This website will feature the important contributions of our members.

Fourthly, we encourage collegiality and long-term working relationships within our Society and with others in the community. Finally, we serve as the regional representative of the American Psychoanalytic Association.

We have members from the Hampton Roads (Norfolk metro) area, Charlottesville metro area, Richmond metro area, and other locations. All mental health professionals licensed in Virginia are potentially eligible for some level of membership (for more information, please click join). We meet in Richmond, Williamsburg, and Charlottesville.

We welcome graduate psychoanalysts and all other mental health practitioners who have an interest in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy with adults, adolescents, and children.
